Observances

Purity (saucha), contentment (samtosha), accepting pain and not causing pain (tapah), study of spirital guidebooks (svadhyaya), and worship of God or self-surrender (Isvarapranidhanani).

Saucha-purity or cleanliness of our bodies (eating healthfully and bathing), our thoughts/minds (meditation),  our speech, our homes, etc.

Samtosha-contentment or being happy with the way things are and not looking outside ourselves or to material things to bring us love, joy, and happiness.

Tapah- austerity or to accept suffering because that means we are “burning” impurities either mental, physical, etc.

Svadhyaya-spiritual study and sadhana (practice) physical or non-physical.

Isvarapranidhanani-dedication or offering everything to God or humanity.
